REVISIT: The Bristol Project - Autumn 2022

I went back to see this 2021 project in Autumn 2022, and after just one year this garden has filled out really well. The clients were delighted with the results, and especially the amount of colour in the borders.

The Model Railway Garden - Summer 2021

When I first arrived at this garden, the large raised beds were already in place. The brief was to create a beautiful garden around the model railway tracks, without making it look like a miniature lanscape. The client wanted to create interest by having height in the planting, behind which the train would disappear on it's journey. We also decided to add in a rockery under the bridge, and a second one in the corner to tie in with it and add further interest.

The Bristol Project - Autumn 2021

This garden was a complete blank canvas. With the exception of two small box parterres by the house, the rest of the garden was lawn. I created a new layout for the garden which involved a series of borders edged with steel, which the client's hard landscaper did a fantastic job installing and preparing the soil for planting.

The starting point for the planting scheme was the box parterre that was already there. I echoed the geometric shapes throughout the design, and used box balls as well as a new circular box parterre to tie the whole planting scheme together.

We used mature trees and shrubs for instant impact, and the perennials have a wide range of foliage shape and colour, with all of the flowers coming from a palette of pinks, blues, purples and whites.
